The Lake
Lake Wateree, created in 1920 by Duke Energy, is more than 13,000 acres and is 21 miles long. There are several wonderful features of this expansive lake, including Lake Wateree State Park, a bird refuge, Shaw Air Force Base Recreation Center and Wateree Lake Camp and RV Campground.
Fishermen enjoy the varieties of fish in the lake such as bass, bigmouth bass, striped bass, crappie, catfish and bream. There are marinas located at various points which offer fuel, boat slips, boat and jet ski rentals, fishing equipment rentals, boat storage, groceries and camping supplies.
South Carolina Department of Natural Resources patrols the lake to ensure boating regulations are observed and to protect public safety.
